IMPULSION Impulsion is the feeling that the horse develops the same amount of energy without increasing speed. Impulsion is a state of mind. The horse must be kept interested
in what he is doing, and he will increase impulsion. When thinking "impulsion", think
straightness, submissiveness, posture (neck of horse, collection)
and energetic movement. Before any exercise or change
in gait, always check impulsion and increase it (I.e.: increase the
nervous response of the horse before asking for an extended trot).
Increase impulsion and at the first sign of stiffening, decrease it a little. Obtain the highest degree possible of impulsion that does not interfere with real relaxation.
